Job summary

State of Tennessee is seeking a Planning Data Engineering Technician 4 in Nashville to support the Planning Division by ensuring the accuracy and quality of statewide roadway and traffic data used for transportation planning and HPMS reporting.

Under TDOT guidance, you will maintain SOPs, lead data validation efforts, and coordinate with FHWA and other divisions. This role emphasizes data integrity, teamwork, and cross‑functional collaboration.

Qualifications

• High school graduation or equivalent with four years of relevant transportation operations experience.
• Four years of relevant transportation operations experience including at least one year leading crews or training employees.
• An associate degree may substitute for two years of experience in the related field as outlined in the position description.
• Experience in transportation-related construction, materials testing, surveying, or ITS operations.

Responsibilities

• Ensure datasets are received and quality controlled; communicate gaps and request recounts as needed.
• Validate datasets for federal TDOT requirements; develop reports and prepare data for TMAS/HPMS reporting.
• Maintain SOPs and dashboards; produce annual summaries and preserve program documentation.
• Participate in peer exchanges; stay updated with federal changes and coordinate with other State DOTs.
• Locate relevant publications and document findings from diverse sources.
• Assist with quality management procedures and process improvements for planning data activities.
• Provide excellent customer service to project stakeholders with clear, organized information and accountable communication.
