Position Title: Planning Center Instructional Aide FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Department: School Support Reports to: Principal

Location: Schools Position Type: Full-Time

Description of Position: The Planning Center Instructional Aide is the facilitator of a proactive setting designed to help students problem solve, develop appropriate school and classroom behaviors, and reduce the need for classroom removal. He or she can provide social and emotional support, interventions and remedial supports for academics. The Planning Center Instructional Aide (PCIA) assumes the role of a supportive resource to help students improve their conduct; to develop their self-esteem; to encourage them to achieve and behave positively; and to experience a respectful environment with firm behavioral expectations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Enforces adherence to established rules and regulations of the program and creates an effective climate for learning.
  2. Serves as a liaison between the classroom teacher and students assigned to the program to obtain and return the student’s daily class work and homework.
  3. Works in conjunction with school counselors, behavior coaches and mental health personnel in order to support and access individual and group counseling.
  4. Serves as a supportive resource or mentor for students.
  5. Provides structure, support and supervision to students in the program.
  6. Communicates appropriate behavior, school rules, and regulations to students in the program; explains to students the impact on their education.
  7. Guides and encourages students to develop a positive attitude toward learning.
  8. Communicates with administration and staff regarding student behavior and progress.
  9. Provides student progress monitoring upon return to classroom.
  10. Closely monitors student data through weekly reviews of EdClick, Power School and School Status programming.
  11. Develop contract agreement with students in program as to the rules and expectations.
  12. Review incident with student as well as discuss causes and alternative behavior.
  13. Provides mediation between assigned student and staff or peer involved in conflict.
  14. Provides support for students who are returning from out of school suspension.
  15. Provides training on building parent capacity to increase student achievement.
  16. Collaborates with families to develop family activities to increase student achievement.
  17. Identify and set parameters to determine successful completion of program.
  18. Update parents daily as to progress or completion through School Status Channel.
  19. Ensure full engagement while in the program.
  20. Conduct and provide character building lesson daily.
  21. Post rules/regulations and expectations in the classroom along with motivational information.
  22. Provide academic support as needed.
  23. Conduct daily physical movement activity.
  24. Provide students with conflict resolution skills.
  25. Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  26. Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  1. Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited College/University.
  2. Teacher certification or a social work degree, preferred.
  3. Must possess some knowledge of, or the ability to accurately and quickly learn, the practices and procedures of an in-school suspension program.
  4. Must possess a general knowledge of a variety of academic subject areas.
**All employees hired by the school district must pass a criminal background and child abuse registry check.**

PREFERRED SKILLS

  1. Specialized training or experience in education or counseling; or any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the noted knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  2. Must possess the ability to effectively apply methods for dealing with student misconduct.
  3. Must possess excellent human relations and communication skills.
  4. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, and school staff.
