Job summary

The City of Johnson City, Tennessee is seeking a Planner II in the Planning Division. The employee performs difficult professional work handling a variety of assignments in city planning under the Development Services department.

Responsibilities include rezoning analysis, general plan research, neighborhood planning, annexation, and preparing reports and exhibits; strong data gathering and analysis required; supervision by the Director of Development Services or designee.

Qualifications

• Graduation from a college or university with major in planning or related social/engineering sciences.
• Master's degree in planning or design discipline preferred.
• Equivalent combination of experience and training acceptable.

Responsibilities

• Performs moderately difficult and varied planning assignments (rezoning, General Plan research, neighborhood planning, redevelopment, annexation).
• Gathers and correlates data related to planning tasks.
• Assists in the analysis and interpretation of planning and zoning data.
• Makes analyses, investigations, and preliminary determinations on planning projects.
• Writes reports and correspondence for each phase of work.
• Assists in planning research projects and maintaining files.
• Conducts long‑range planning research and presents casework to boards and commissions.
