The City of Surprise Community Development Department is seeking a self-motivated, collaborative, and experienced Planner for the Planner II position. Planners in this role work with other planning professionals, city departments, residents, landowners, developers, and design professionals to develop high-quality proposals.

The ideal candidate can manage multiple priorities, work in a fast-paced environment, provide excellent customer service, possess strong writing skills, lead teams, and confidently present proposals to the Planning and Zoning Commission and City Council. Responsibilities

• Perform professional land use and urban planning activities, including current and long-range planning.
• Engage in urban design, landscape architecture, parks and open space planning.
• Review zoning and development applications.
• Coordinate special projects and conduct research, analysis, and report writing.
• Provide customer service and make oral presentations to the public, boards, commissions, City Council, and City management.
• Collaborate with county, state, and federal agencies, community groups, developers, and stakeholders to meet the city's economic development, land use, transportation, and housing goals.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Planning, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, or a related field.
• Two years of professional-level experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Additional education cannot substitute for experience.
