Job summary

Aston Carter seeks a Planner to support manufacturing by maintaining BOMs, work orders, and production methods in ERP. You will collaborate with purchasing and project management to ensure on-time delivery and accurate documentation in a contract-to-hire, on-site role in Santa Maria, CA.

Responsibilities include creating BOMs, generating material requests, coordinating POs, tracking material status, and releasing work orders aligned with sales orders.

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in production planning or material planning in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with ERP systems for BOMs, work orders, and material management.
  • Strong attention to detail with technical documentation and data.
  • Ability to coordinate schedule planning and production planning activities.
  • Strong communication with purchasing and project management.

Responsibilities

  • Create production bills of materials in the ERP system based on drawings and engineering parts lists.
  • Generate material requests driven by project sales order demand, BOMs, and drawing requirements.
  • Coordinate with purchasing to convert material requests into purchase orders in a timely manner.
  • Communicate regularly with purchasing to track shipments and resolve delays or issues with material deliveries.
  • Track material status per project to ensure timely delivery and provide status updates to management.
  • Create production methods in the ERP system based on information from customer quotes.
  • Release new work orders in the ERP system in alignment with sales orders.
  • Generate complete work order packages with required data per production control procedures.
  • Validate and maintain configuration and effectivity in work order packages throughout manufacturing.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies arising from paperwork or documentation issues.
  • Perform other related duties to support production planning and material control.

Job Title: PlannerJob Description

The Planner supports manufacturing operations by creating and maintaining production bills of materials, work orders, and production methods in the ERP system. This role ensures that materials and production documentation are accurate, timely, and aligned with project requirements, enabling on-time delivery and efficient production. The Planner works closely with purchasing and project management to track material status, resolve discrepancies, and support continuous improvement across production and material planning activities.

Responsibilities
  • Create production bills of materials in the ERP system based on drawings and engineering parts lists.
  • Generate material requests (MRs) driven by project sales order demand, bills of materials, and drawing requirements.
  • Coordinate with purchasing to ensure material requests are accurately converted into purchase orders in a timely manner.
  • Communicate regularly with purchasing to track shipments and resolve any delays or issues with material deliveries.
  • Track material status on a project-by-project basis to ensure timely delivery and provide clear status updates to project management.
  • Create production methods in the ERP system based on information established in customer quotes.
  • Release new work orders in the ERP system in alignment with sales order requirements.
  • Generate complete work order packages, including all required technical data, in accordance with production control procedures to support new builds, refurbishments, and repairs.
  • Validate and maintain the latest configuration and effectivity in work order packages throughout the manufacturing cycle.
  • Identify and resolve discrepancies arising from incorrect paperwork or related documentation issues.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support production planning and material control.
Essential Skills
  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 3+ years of experience in production planning, material planning, or a similar role in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with ERP systems for production planning, bills of materials, work orders, and material management.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in working with technical documentation and data.
  • Demonstrated experience in planning within a manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to coordinate schedule planning and production planning activities.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with purchasing and project management.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Associate degree or technical training in logistics, supply chain, or manufacturing is preferred.
  • Experience working with production control procedures and technical data packages.
  • Background in manufacturing operations and processes.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.

Work Environment

This is an in-office role in a manufacturing environment, working Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The position involves frequent use of an ERP system and regular interaction with production, purchasing, and project management teams. The work setting supports professional growth and offers room for advancement within the organization.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Santa Maria, CA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $30.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
