Job summary

Plain Dealing Lumber is a lumber producer in Plain Dealing, LA, seeking a Planer Mill Machine Operator to run and monitor planer mill equipment, ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency. You will work with production and maintenance to maintain production flow, quality and housekeeping standards, following company policies and safe work practices.

This is a shift-based role at our Plain Dealing facility with 1st and 2nd shifts available; the hourly rate is $18.50.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred; not required with verifiable planer mill or manufacturing experience.
• Operator 1: No prior planer mill experience required; willingness to learn and safety commitment essential.
• Operator 2/3: Prior experience operating planer mills or similar production equipment required.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate assigned planer mill equipment per procedures and supervisor direction.
• Develop skills across multiple planer mill positions through operator progression.
• Feed and stage lumber to maintain production flow and prevent jams or damage.
• Monitor lumber quality and report non-conforming product.
• Complete pre-shift inspections to ensure safe equipment operation.
• Operate sorting, stacking, and material-handling equipment by grade, species, and dimension.
• Maintain production counts, shift logs, downtime records, and quality information.
• Follow all safety policies and LOTO procedures before clearance or adjustment tasks.
• Maintain clean, safe and organized work areas by removing debris.
• Communicate equipment issues and production bottlenecks to supervisors.
• Report safety concerns or equipment malfunctions promptly.
