Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred; relevant sawmill or industrial manufacturing experience may substitute.
• Operator 1: No prior sawmill experience required; training provided.
• Operator 2: 6–12 months of downstream sawmill experience required.
• Operator 3: Proficiency in 3+ downstream positions or completion of PDL's cross-training program required.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions, run sheets, sort orders, and safety procedures.
• Ability to identify lumber quality issues while working safely around moving machinery in a high-noise, high-dust environment.
• Strong commitment to workplace safety, reliable attendance, and flexibility to work rotating shifts and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate assigned sawmill equipment and production positions according to procedures and supervisor directions.
• Develop skills across multiple sawmill positions through Operator progression (1–3).
• Make production decisions to maximize lumber recovery and meet quality standards.
• Monitor lumber quality, material flow, and equipment performance; report defects or issues.
• Complete pre-shift inspections and ensure safety guards and equipment are in good condition.
• Coordinate with other operators to maintain smooth material flow and communicate issues.
• Maintain accurate production counts, logs, and quality documentation.
• Follow all safety policies and LOTO procedures; report and stop for unsafe conditions.
• Assist with cross-training and other production tasks as needed.
