Job summary

Anchorage — Development Services Department is seeking a qualified professional to manage land use and building projects from initial application through occupancy. You will answer technical code questions, provide engineering judgments, and oversee retrofit and fire rehab approvals.

Position requires a high school diploma or higher and 4+ years in engineering-related fields, or a relevant two-year/ bachelor’s degree with equivalent experience. A valid Alaska driver’s license preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent,
• and
• four (4) years of technical experience in engineering, permitting, plan review, surveying, computer aided design, drafting, project management or a related field.
• OR
• Associate’s degree in Urban Planning, Engineering, Drafting, Statistics, Logistics, or similar discipline,
• and
• two (2) years of technical experience in engineering, permitting, plan review, surveying, computer aided design, drafting, project management or a related field.
• OR
• Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Engineering, Drafting, Statistics, Logistics, or similar discipline,
• an
• d
• technical experience in engineering, permitting, plan review, surveying, computer assisted design, drafting, project management or a related field.

Responsibilities

• Under direction of Supervisor, manage building and the land use projects from application to Certificate of Occupancy issuance.
• Answer technical code questions; make engineering value judgements; manage retrofit building and fire rehab application approvals.
• Review small project specifications for adherence to submittal requirements; receive, monitor and resolve customer complaints.
• Coordinate plan reviews and approvals with appropriate staff; manage coverage of the ACD (Automatic Call Distributor) telephone system.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Engineering, Drafting, Statistics, Logistics, or similar discipline

Associate’s degree in Urban Planning, Engineering, Drafting, Statistics, Logistics, or similar discipline

High school diploma, GED, or equivalent
