Job summary

Piedmont Service Group in Raleigh, NC is seeking an experienced Piping Superintendent to lead on-site piping operations across multiple projects. You will oversee manpower planning, scheduling, and coordination with project management, clients, and field personnel to ensure safe, on-time, and on-budget execution.

The role requires 10+ years of piping experience with at least 5 years in a leadership capacity, plus strong knowledge of isometrics, P&IDs, and construction schedules.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10+ years of industrial piping experience, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
• Experience managing multiple projects, manpower planning, and schedules.
• Strong knowledge of isometrics, P&IDs, specs and construction schedules.
• Proven client-facing communication and team leadership skills.
• Experience with testing, commissioning, punch-list, and turnover.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and direct all piping crew activities on site, including crew leaders, welders, pipefitters, and helpers.
• Plan and coordinate daily piping tasks in line with project requirements and milestones.
• Interpret and ensure compliance with piping isometric drawings, P&IDs, and specifications.
• Monitor work progress and ensure adherence to safety, quality, and productivity standards.
• Communicate and coordinate with project managers, safety personnel, and other trades.
• Track materials, tools, and equipment needed for daily operations.
• Conduct toolbox talks and enforce compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
• Ensure proper testing and inspection of installed piping systems.
• Maintain records of manpower, material usage, and work progress.
• Troubleshoot issues and provide solutions to maintain workflow and minimize downtime.
• Train and mentor junior staff and ensure crew competency.

Job Summary

The Piping Superintendent is responsible for managing and coordinating piping operations across multiple projects simultaneously. This role oversees manpower planning and scheduling, attends project meetings, supports project teams, monitors labor productivity and material costs, and ensures all work is completed safely, correctly, on schedule, and within budget. The Superintendent serves as the primary field leader, coordinating resources, resolving issues, and maintaining communication between project management, clients, and field personnel to ensure successful project execution.

Requirements

Key Experience Requirements

• Minimum 10+ years of industrial, commercial, or mechanical piping experience, including 5 years in a leadership role
• Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously and allocating manpower efficiently
• Proven ability to develop manpower schedules, labor forecasts, and resource plans
• Experience attending and leading project meetings with clients, contractors, engineers, and project managers
• Extensive background overseeing project execution from planning through completion
• Experience monitoring labor productivity, controlling man-hours, and maintaining profitability
• Knowledge of material management, procurement coordination, and cost control
• Experience coordinating piping work with other construction trades
• Strong understanding of isometrics, P&IDs, specifications, and construction schedules
• Experience utilizing project scheduling and reporting tools
• Demonstrated leadership of pipefitters, welders, foremen, laborers, and subcontractors
• Experience with testing, commissioning, punch-list completion, and project turnover
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to mitigate schedule and cost impacts
• Excellent client-facing communication and team leadership abilities
