Job summary

Affiliated Engineers, Inc. in Chapel Hill is seeking a Piping/Plumbing Engineer I to assist with energy-efficient building solutions. You will be mentored by experienced engineers and, as you gain experience, you will mentor designers.

Initial tasks include load calculations, system sizing, equipment sizing, field surveys, and reviewing shop drawings. You will gradually lead project teams, write specifications, and participate in client meetings to support successful projects.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering from ABET-accredited program.
• Minimum GPA of 2.5.
• EIT certification (FE) a plus.
• Internship in the MEP consulting engineering field preferred.
• Leadership involvement in extracurricular activities/student organizations preferred.
• Non-academic internship.

Responsibilities

• Perform load calculations, determine system sizing and layouts.
• Calculate equipment sizes, select equipment.
• Complete field surveys and review equipment shop drawings.
• Lead piping/plumbing project teams as you gain experience.
• Write specifications and participate in project meetings with clients and other consultants.
• Support construction-phase activities.
