Piping Construction Engineer – Pharmaceutical Construction Program
On-site – Indiana – 12-Month Contract – Full-Time (40 hrs/week + Expected 10 hours overtime) - Possibility for Night Shifts.
Are you an experienced piping professional with strong pharmaceutical or life sciences experience who can represent the owner in the field and ensure piping systems are installed, tested, flushed, passivated, and turned over to the required standards?
We’re looking for an experienced Piping Construction Engineer to provide owner-side field oversight of piping construction, contractor performance, system completion, and turnover across a complex, highly regulated pharmaceutical facility.
This is an owner-side role focused on field verification, technical coordination, quality, system readiness, and contractor accountability rather than direct supervision of the construction workforce.
About the Role
Act as the owner’s field representative for piping and mechanical systems, working closely with construction contractors, QA/QC, commissioning, engineering, and project leadership to ensure systems are delivered safely, correctly, and in accordance with design, specifications, and project requirements.
Responsibilities
- Represent the owner in the field for piping and mechanical construction activities
- Monitor contractor installation activities and verify work is progressing in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and project requirements
- Review and interpret P&IDs, isometrics, specifications, construction drawings, and vendor documentation
- Provide field oversight of process piping, utility systems, clean utilities, and high-purity piping
- Identify installation issues, deviations, clashes, and quality concerns and drive timely resolution with contractors and engineering
- Monitor contractor progress, sequencing, manpower, and overall execution against project milestones
- Participate in inspections, walkdowns, punch-list development, and system readiness reviews
- Provide strong owner-side oversight of testing, flushing, cleaning, passivation, and preparation of piping systems for commissioning
- Review flushing and passivation plans, procedures, records, and acceptance criteria to ensure compliance with project and system requirements
- Verify system boundaries, test packages, completion documentation, and turnover records are properly established and maintained
- Coordinate closely with QA/QC, commissioning, CQV, engineering, and construction teams to support system completion and handover
- Monitor contractor adherence to quality, safety, GMP, and site requirements
- Support investigation and resolution of field quality issues, including documentation of deficiencies and corrective actions
- Participate in contractor and client meetings, providing clear updates on piping progress, risks, constraints, and system status
- Support turnover and commissioning readiness by ensuring piping systems are complete, documented, tested, and ready for the next phase
- Maintain a strong owner focus on quality, compliance, schedule, and system functionality
Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in piping construction, commissioning, or field engineering within industrial or life sciences projects
- Proven experience in an owner’s representative, field engineering, construction management, QA/QC, or senior piping role
- Strong background in process piping, utilities, clean utilities, and/or high-purity piping systems
- Demonstrated experience overseeing contractors and verifying piping installation and system completion
- Hands-on experience with piping testing, flushing, cleaning, and passivation
- Strong understanding of systemization, turnover, commissioning interfaces, and phased handover
- Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, isometrics, specifications, and construction drawings
- Strong understanding of piping quality requirements, documentation, and field verification
- Excellent communication and coordination skills with contractors, engineering, QA/QC, commissioning, and project leadership
- Proactive approach to identifying issues, managing risks, and driving resolution
- Comfortable working independently as the owner’s representative in a fast-paced construction environment
Preferred Skills
- Pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or other highly regulated project experience
- Experience with GMP environments, clean utilities, and high-purity process piping
- Strong knowledge of passivation, chemical cleaning, flushing, and piping system acceptance
- Experience supporting commissioning, qualification (CQV), and system turnover
- Familiarity with weld documentation, pressure testing, test packages, and piping quality records
- Experience reviewing contractor procedures, ITPs, inspection records, and turnover documentation
- Background on large-scale, fast-paced, multi-discipline pharmaceutical construction programs
