Job summary

Black & Veatch is hiring a Mechanical Piping Designer - Associate Engineering Technician for the Advanced Process Solutions market sector. The role focuses on piping layout development, routing, tie-ins to process equipment, and ensuring designs align with P&IDs, codes, and project requirements.

You will work under supervision with multidisciplinary teams, developing 3D piping models using Hexagon SmartPlant and CADWorx, producing deliverables, supporting quality reviews, and growing piping

Qualifications

• Diploma or Certificate required.
• Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred.
• Typically a minimum of 2 years related work experience.
• All applicants must be able to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements (criminal/civil background check, etc.).

Responsibilities

• Supports engineering teams under general supervision
• Performs technical tasks requiring intermediate knowledge of engineering principles and practices
• Uses digital tools and design software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modeling)
• Creates, updates, and maintains technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables
• Begins providing technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineering technicians
• Stay current on applicable standards, systems, document control practices, BV policies and procedures
• Apply knowledge of the BV Quality Program to ensure accurate, compliant deliverables
• Demonstrate strong attention to detail while supporting continuous improvement and change management initiatives
• Use and expand applications and tools to evaluate and improve methods, processes, and procedures
• Create and develop project deliverables based on a variety of design inputs
• Perform basic computations, including material quantity estimates and dimensional checks
• Coordinate deliverables with other project groups to minimize errors and interferences
• Support internal client needs while developing an understanding of external client priorities and drivers
• Proactively seek out, share, and apply knowledge of new technologies and evolving processes
