Job summary

Burns & McDonnell in Kansas City is seeking an Assistant Piping Engineer who will work under licensed engineers to help design piping systems for power, process, and infrastructure projects. You will support the project teams through design and construction, adapting piping plans to meet budget and client needs.

The role involves CAD work (AutoCAD, BIM/Revit), field measurements, and collaboration across disciplines.

Qualifications

Bachelor Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an accredited program.
Or Bachelor Degree in Mechanical or related Engineering Technology from an accredited program and successful completion of FE exam.
ABET Accredited program strongly preferred.
Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
Basic knowledge in standard piping engineering techniques, principles and procedures.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
Basic computer skills include AutoCAD, BIM (Revit), 3D Rendering Programs, hydraulic analysis, and HVAC analysis programs.
Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem solving skills.
Demonstrated leadership skills.
Engineers in Training-EIT Certification .preferred.
Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.
Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the country where this position is located.

Responsibilities

Assists in piping design of projects from conceptual phase through design completion.
Assists with modifying and reviewing production drawings for a variety of projects.
Assists in designing piping components for project needs and requirements.
Applies basic knowledge of piping engineering concepts within the chemical piping services industry.
Assists with researching and compiling project data as required by project managers.
Assists with correcting and updating drawings in CAD software.
Assists with client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration for design of various facilities.
Assists in performing field inspections, measurements or calculations for clients.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Complies with all policies and standards.
