CHIPTON-ROSS Inc. is seeking multiple Pipe Welders 1st Class for a contract opportunity in Pascagoula, MS. The ideal candidate should possess at least 3 years of pipe welding experience and be proficient in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) and Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW).

This role requires performing welding procedures in a shipyard environment which operates 24/7. Candidates must be able to safely navigate various work conditions and pass specific military welding tests.

Qualifications

Pipe Welder, 1st Class – Contract Position

Chipton‑Ross is seeking multiple Pipe Welders 1st Class for a contract opportunity in Pascagoula, MS.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience)

• Minimum 3 years of pipe welding experience.
• Experience in Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), also known as Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) welding.
• Experience in Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), also known as “stick welding”.
• Ability to pass military standard X‑Ray welding test on stainless steel and copper‑nickel in the 6G position (restricted).
• Ability to pass a military specification welding assessment in the vertical (3G), horizontal (2G) and overhead (4G) positions.
• Pipe welding test in a restricted position (6G) on a 5″ schedule 80 carbon steel pipe.
• Use GTAW (TIG) process for root pass; 11018 electrodes used for weld‑fill portion and cap.

Position Responsibilities

A Pipe Welder is responsible for performing pipe welding procedures on stainless steel and copper‑nickel pipe using Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW), also known as tungsten inert gas (TIG) welding. The shipyard environment is an around‑the‑clock manufacturing setting. Ingalls shipyard production areas involve working at different heights, confined spaces, different weather conditions and multiple shifts 24 hours a day. The Welder may be required to work either day or night depending on the number of ships under construction at any one point in time. The Welder must work safely, with safety procedures meeting and most times exceeding industry standards. The work includes welding processes such as Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), also known as “stick welding” and Flux‑Core Arc Welding (FCAW), also known as “wire welding.” The Welder must also pass military standard X‑Ray welding test on stainless steel and copper‑nickel in the 6G position (restricted) and the pipe welding test in a restricted position (6G) on a 5″ schedule 80 carbon steel pipe, using GTAW (TIG) process for root pass with 11018 electrodes for fill and cap.

Required Education

Accredited high school diploma or equivalent.
