Job summary

Marathon Petroleum Corporation is seeking a Scheduler within the Movements Organization of MPL, focused on commercial opportunities to generate revenue and optimize crude oil movements. The role interfaces with shippers, carriers, the Operations Center and field personnel to plan, communicate and manage monthly schedules for cost-efficient operations.

The position requires a bachelor’s degree or 5 years of related experience, with knowledge of downstream or pipeline operations preferred.

• Proficiency with Excel for data manipulation and reporting in Outlook/Word environments.

Responsibilities

• Plan pipeline schedules to optimize utilization, hydraulics and operating costs.
• Remain on call 24/7 to adjust schedules during upsets or emergencies.
• Prepare and distribute daily operational and shipper inventory reports.
• Review customer requirements to determine batch size, sequence and timing at origin/destination.
• Communicate with shippers and carriers to coordinate timing and grades of receipt and delivery.
• Provide schedules and instructions to operations centers and field personnel; update as needed.
• Identify growth opportunities by using market information and schedule efficiencies.
• Collaborate with shippers, carriers and field personnel to minimize downtime.

MPL is seeking a highly motivated individual who is focused on commercial opportunities to generate revenue for MPL/MPLX and to optimize their assigned pipeline system(s) to save operating costs while ensuring a high level of service to MPL/MPLX’s shippers. A scheduler interfaces with shipper scheduling personnel, connecting carriers, the Operations Center, and field personnel to plan, communicate, and manage the monthly movement schedules. Schedules are developed to optimize system utilization, hydraulics, and operating costs while minimizing contamination and the intermixing of crude. This scheduler opportunity within Marathon Pipeline's (MPL) Movements Organization is in the Crude Oil Movements Group.

Job location may be Findlay, OH or San Antonio, TX depending on the selected candidates.

Responsibilities

• Remains on call 24 hours/7 days per week to adjust schedules for problems due to operational upsets or emergencies.
• Plans pipeline schedules to optimize pipeline utilization, hydraulics and operating costs such as energy, DRA, etc.
• Prepares and distributes daily operational and shipper inventory reports to communicate supply positions, inventory balances, and potential supply concerns to operations personnel, shippers, and connecting carriers.
• Reviews and analyzes requirements of customers to determine the proper batch size, sequence and timing at origin and destination points.
• Communicates with scheduling personnel of shippers and connecting carriers to develop proper timing and grades of receipt and deliveries.
• Provides appropriate schedules and instructions to shippers, connecting carriers, the Operations Center and field personnel and updates these to reflect changes in batch size, sequence, timing, origin, etc.
• Identify business growth opportunities by understanding MPL/MPLX’s critical success factors and utilizing market information as well as implementing schedule efficiencies.
• Identify synergies by working with shippers, connecting carriers, MPL/G&P field personnel and Logistics and Storage Engineering (L&SE) to minimize system downtime.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent related experience required.
• In lieu of a degree, 5 years of industry experience is required.
• Knowledge of downstream operations and/or pipeline operations is preferred.
• Experience with Excel (including familiarity with data manipulation and writing functions), Outlook and Word.
