Job summary

Peoples Gas System in Florida's St. Petersburg area is seeking a Pipeline Locator to accurately locate and mark underground facilities, ensuring public safety and compliance with Sunshine 811 standards.

You will work with the Damage Prevention team and contractors to prevent damages during excavation. Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, a valid Florida driver's license, and 1 year of underground utility locating experience or ASME B31Q qualifications.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.
• Valid Florida Driver’s License with clean record.
• 1 year underground utility locating experience or ASME B31Q qualifications.
• Ability to read GIS utility maps.
• Proficient computer skills and experience with electronic ticket systems.
• Experience operating electronic locating equipment.
• Knowledge of state one-call requirements and excavation practices.
• Ability to follow complex instructions and communicate clearly.
• Ability to work independently and exercise judgement.
• Willingness to learn excavation best practices and PHMSA/FPSC rules.

Responsibilities

• Receive and respond to excavation notices using an electronic locate system.
• Accurately locate and mark underground assets in various locations with spray paints and flags.
• Operate locating equipment within prescribed accuracy limits.
• Provide GIS map updates and facility record corrections to GIS team.
• Assist with damaged facility investigations and documentation.
• Build relationships with excavation contractors to reduce damages.
• Be available for emergency locate response on a rotating basis.
