Job summary

Sunoco LP seeks a Pipeline Controller in the San Antonio area to oversee safe, reliable product flow across the pipeline network. You will monitor pressures, manage pump and delivery schedules, and coordinate with field personnel to maintain quality and uptime.

The role requires shift work (12 hours), weekend and some holiday duties, emergency response readiness, and the ability to operate from an alternate control center if needed.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • PHMSA drug/alcohol screening required.
  • Must live within an hour of the control room.
  • Proficient with MS Excel, Word, and Project.
  • Able to multitask, analyze data, and pay attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and interpersonal communication is needed.
  • Some travel and overtime may be required.
  • This is a 12-hour shift with day and night rotations including weekends and some holidays.
  • Ability to report from an alternate control center during emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Work with the various departments within Sunoco to execute all changes as they are scheduled.
  • First contact in an emergency response situation which includes notification of emergency services and Sunoco management.
  • Initiates pump and delivery schedule changes, monitors tank inventories, meter counts, line pressures and temperatures.
  • Directs, controls and monitors the delivery and change of product at remote locations utilizing computer-controlled field equipment.
  • Work with field personnel on basic troubleshooting of communications, SCADA, control valves and other equipment related to control and operations.
  • Complete daily throughput reports.
  • Evaluate operational problems and provide recommendations to solve these problems

Sunoco LP is a leading energy infrastructure and fuel distribution master limited partnership operating across 47 U.S. states, Puerto Rico, Europe, and Mexico. The Partnership's midstream operations include an extensive network of approximately 9,500 miles of pipeline and over 100 terminals. This critical infrastructure complements the Partnership's fuel distribution operations, which serve approximately 10,000 convenience stores, independent dealers, commercial customers, and distributors.

Summary:


Position provides for the safe, reliable product flow operation of the Sunoco Pipeline Systems. Controls and optimizes the use of pumps and pipeline equipment with field personnel to facilitate liquid commodities (Refined Products, Ammonia and Crude Oil). Ensures proper reporting of data to the Partnership.


To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The essential job duties for this position are listed below:



  • Monitor and maintain pipeline pressures within design criteria and monitor liquids quality at various points.

  • Work closely with the various departments within Sunoco to execute all changes as they are scheduled.

  • First contact in an emergency response situation which includes notification of emergency services and Sunoco management.

  • Initiates pump and delivery schedule changes, monitors tank inventories, meter counts, line pressures and temperatures.Directs, controls and monitors the delivery and change of product at remote locations utilizing computer-controlled field equipment. Utilizes continuous discretion to initiate changes of pump and delivery schedules to maintain overall delivery schedule, product quality, safe operating conditions and a cost-efficient operation. Responsible for monitoring tank inventories and for the appropriate handling of shippers’ products both into and out of attended and unattended storage facilities.

  • Work with field personnel on basic troubleshooting of communications, SCADA, control valves and other equipment related to control and operations.

  • Complete daily throughput reports.

  • Evaluate operational problems and provide recommendations to solve these problems


Required Skills

Required Education:



  • High School Diploma or GED


Required Qualifications:



  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug/alcohol screening and random testing per PHMSA regulations

  • Live within an hour of control room.

  • Familiar with personal computer applications (i.e. Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Microsoft Project, and other programs such as: flow and pressure simulation, velocity, pressure drop, purge and pack, regulators and control valves, relief valves, etc.)

  • Proven multitasking, analytical and judgment skills, and extremely detail oriented

  • Strong verbal communication skills together with good interpersonal skills

  • Some travel and overtime is required

  • This is a (12 hour) shift position requiring both day and night shifts including weekends and some holiday work

  • Ability to work from an alternate Control Center location in the event of an emergency


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience in remote control, pipeline operations or other related field directly related to the Control Center functions

  • Basic knowledge of measurement principles and Liquids hydraulics


Working Conditions and Requirements:



  • Usually, normal office working conditions

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time due to prolonged periods of sitting or standing

  • Occasional overnight travel may be required

  • Occasional visits to industrial/manufacturing settings which may include hazardous materials and chemicals, as well as extreme temperature conditions and loud machinery, and require appropriate personal protective equipment
