Job summary

General Motors is seeking qualified Mechanical Journeypersons (Pipefitters) to work with minimal supervision and high level of independent problem solving. You will handle multiple assignments per shift, read blueprints, and work with piping, conveyors, robotics, and CNC tools on industrial equipment.

Ideal candidates have 6+ years in mechanical trades or a related labor cert, and are eligible to work in the U.S.

Qualifications

• At least six (6) years of related experience in a Mechanical trade (millwright, pipefitter, toolmaker, machine repair) or a U.S. Department of Labor Certificate of Completion in a Mechanical trade.
• Must be able to complete GM hiring process requirements including assessments, drug testing, and background check.
• At least 18 years of age and eligible to work in the United States.
• Willing to work flexible shift hours including day, afternoon, night, overtime, weekends and holidays on short notice.
• Certificates/credentials and interview scoring will determine pay.

Responsibilities

• Follow established safety procedures according to OSHA standards and company procedures.
• Maintain, dismantle, repair, and replace mechanical and hydraulic components on industrial machinery such as bearings, seals, shafts, motors, pumps, valves, etc.
• Layout, assemble, fabricate, maintain, and repair piping systems.
• Use hand or power tools for measuring, cutting, threading, grooving, bending, soldering and installing pipes and fittings.
• Read and interpret blueprints for conveyors, material handling systems, robots and automation.
• Operate mobile equipment (forklifts, lifts, cranes) and rig loads.
• Set up and operate CNC machines to cut, bore, grind parts to specs.
• Plan sequences for fabricating tools using blueprints or models.
• Verify finished part quality with calipers, micrometers and other gauges.
