Job summary

LAUKOA is seeking a Pipefitter to maintain and repair high-pressure steam, chilled water, condensate, and related piping systems at the Capitol Power Plant. This full-time, Monday–Friday day shift (6:00 a.m.

to 2:30 p.m.) is essential and requires 24/7 on-call availability for emergencies. Responsibilities include installing and repairing piping, pumps, and valves, reading technical drawings, and documenting maintenance in the CMMS.

Qualifications

  • Current, valid journey-level Pipefitter license in Washington, DC or Maryland, as required by the solicitation.
  • Current Steamfitter/Pipefitter certification from National Inspection and Testing Certification (NITC), or equivalent.
  • Completed vocational and technical training in plumbing maintenance and service work.

Responsibilities

  • Install, assemble, troubleshoot, modify, repair, and maintain high- and low-pressure piping, fittings, and fixtures.
  • Maintain high-pressure steam, high-temperature water, water, storm drainage, and related systems.
  • Install and repair condensate, sewer, sump, and water pumps and water softeners.
  • Repair steam traps, relief valves, and control valves.
  • Enter maintenance reports and photographs into TMA.
  • Maintain familiarity with the Emergency Operating Plan and support assigned emergency response activities.

Location: Washington, DC | Capitol Power Plant

Position Summary

LAUKOA is seeking a Pipefitter to maintain and repair high-pressure steam, chilled water, condensate, and related piping systems at the Capitol Power Plant. This is a full-time assignment during the Monday–Friday day shift, 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The position is designated essential and requires 24/7 on‑call availability for critical repairs and emergency work.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Install, assemble, troubleshoot, modify, repair, and maintain high- and low-pressure piping, fittings, and fixtures.

Maintain high-pressure steam, high-temperature water, water, storm drainage, and related systems.

Install and repair condensate, sewer, sump, and water pumps and water softeners.

Repair steam traps, relief valves, and control valves.

Cut, thread, and connect pipe using appropriate flanged, sweated, union, bolted, brazed, fused, glued, screwed, soldered, or welded joints.

Use utility plans, blueprints, sketches, manufacturer literature, and specifications to size, estimate, install, and repair piping.

Enter maintenance reports and photographs into TMA.

Maintain familiarity with the Emergency Operating Plan and support assigned emergency response activities.

Minimum Qualifications

Current, valid journey‑level Pipefitter license in Washington, DC or Maryland, as required by the solicitation.

Current Steamfitter/Pipefitter certification from National Inspection and Testing Certification (NITC), or equivalent.

At least three (3) years of experience within the past five (5) years as a licensed apprentice-level pipefitter in facilities of comparable complexity.

Completed vocational and technical training in plumbing maintenance and service work.

Required licenses and certifications must be valid and current upon contract award.

Obtain and maintain tunnel‑entry certificates in asbestos awareness, permit‑required confined space, and heat stress prevention; maintain annual refreshers for asbestos awareness and heat stress prevention.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to identify common causes of plumbing, steam, and chilled water distribution failures.

Ability to understand technical drawings, specifications, and applicable plumbing codes.

Ability to work independently from technical documents and meet project deadlines.

Basic proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Project, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, and the CMMS tools needed for assigned duties.

Effective listening, business writing, and verbal communication; ability to adapt to shifting priorities and coordinate with stakeholders.

Security Requirements

Must receive favorable United States Capitol Police screening and complete required fingerprinting, photography, and badging before unescorted site work.

Must satisfy employment‑authorization verification through E‑Verify and comply with site access and identification requirements.

Physical Requirements

Ability to perform the essential duties and access assigned work areas, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Ability to conduct assigned inspections or maintenance in utility tunnels and mechanical areas, including hot, damp, low‑light conditions and permit‑required confined spaces.

Ability to follow required entry procedures and use appropriate personal protective equipment.

Wage Rate

Between $41.79 - $73.60 per hour (includes $5.42 for Health & Welfare)
