Job summary

Brown & Root Industrial Services is seeking a Journeyman with 3+ years of field experience in piping, steam and HVAC systems. You will read plans, lay out and install piping, supports, and related hydraulic and pneumatic equipment, ensuring quality and safety on site.

Responsibilities include selecting materials, cutting and threading pipe, assembling joints, testing for leaks, and maintaining tools. Overtime and safety training are common in this role.

Qualifications

• May require a high school diploma or its equivalent with previous years of experience in the field or in a related area.
• Knowledge of commonly-used concepts, practices, and procedures within a particular field.
• Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job.
• Works under immediate supervision.
• Primary job functions do not typically require exercising independent judgment.
• Typically reports to a supervisor or manager.

Responsibilities

• Selects type and size of pipe and related materials and equipment according to job specifications.
• Inspects worksite to determine presence of obstructions and plan sequence to avoid them.
• Cuts, threads and bends pipe using appropriate tools and machines.
• Mounts pipe hangers and brackets to support piping systems.
• Assembles and installs pipes and fittings with various joints (caulked, soldered, brazed, fused, cemented).
• Tests piping systems for leaks by pressurizing and checking gauges.
• Welds pipe supports to structural members and observes machinery for malfunctions.
• Loads, transports and unloads materials and tools; assists in positioning of pieces.
• Performs routine maintenance and cleaning of tools and equipment.
• Operates within safety rules; respiratory protection may be required.
