Job summary

Domtar Corporation in Nekoosa, Wisconsin is seeking a Pipefitter Apprentice to join our Mechanical Maintenance team. This full-time, permanent role supports journeymen with repairs, preventive maintenance and installation of mill machinery and related equipment.

You will read and interpret instructions and blueprints, maintain safety standards, operate power tools, and work in hot areas as part of a multi-craft crew.

Qualifications

  • Industrial Mechanical Technician associate degree or equivalent core education including post‑high school math, physics, and drafting/blueprint reading.
  • Must pass respirator fit test and be clean shaven where the respirator seals.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to safety practices and procedures.
  • Read and interpret instructions, documentation, and plans for safe work.
  • Assist journeyman with mechanical repairs, preventive maintenance and installation of mill equipment.
  • Locate, determine and repair malfunctions of mill machinery and plant systems.
  • Maintain power generating equipment and assist other crafts when needed.
  • Work with other crews and lead persons.
  • Perform housekeeping and other duties as assigned.

The location in Nekoosa, (Wisconsin, United States), is seeking talent to fill the position of Pipefitter Apprentice. This job is full-time permanent.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adhereto employer safety practices andprocedures.
  • Assistin reading andinterpretinginstructions,documentation,and plan safe workactivitiesaccordingly.
  • Assist journeyman withmechanicalrepairs,preventativemaintenance, and installation of mill machinery and related equipment.
  • Aidwith locating, determining, and repairing malfunctions of millmachineryand plant support systems.
  • Maintain powergeneratingequipmentas required andassist other crafts when working together on a job.
  • Workin conjunction withother crews and lead persons.
  • Performgeneral housekeeping duties and other duties as assigned by supervision.

Required Qualifications:

  • Apprentices must have an Industrial Mechanical Technician associate degree OR equivalent core education consisting of post high school Intermediate Algebra or Trigonometry, post high school Physics, post high school Mechanical Drafting/Blueprint reading, post high school training in hydraulics.
  • Apprenticesneed to pass a respirator fittest and be clean shaven where the sealing surface of the respirator contacts theface.
  • Holda valid Wisconsin Driver’s License.
  • Apprentices must meet established test standards and have a good work record, strong work ethic, and have good safety and attendance records.
  • Apprentices must work safely with hazardous materials such as: corrosive acids, chlorates, polymers, gases, etc.
  • Apprentices will work in extremely hot areas and must wear protective equipment and clothing when required.
  • Apprentices must do a considerable amount of bending, stooping, reaching, turning, and twisting and must be able to climb and work in high places. Examples include: 8 feet to 60-foot elevated lifts, ladders, cherry pickers, and manlifts.
  • Apprentices must work safely around moving machinery and work in confined places (inside dryers, boilers, etc.) and must also work safely with hazardous materials such as: corrosive acids, chlorates, polymers, gases, etc.
  • Apprentices must also learn to operate and use power equipment such as: saws, drills, planers, threaders, etc., and must have the ability to read blueprints and schematic diagrams.
  • Ability to lift 50 to 100 pounds regularly.

Must beWilling to meet thefollowingrequirements:

  • Available to work varying hours that may include shift,weekends,andholidays.
  • Ability to work scheduled and unscheduled overtime and respondto emergency call-ins.
  • Passpre-employment background check and drugscreen.
  • Wearthe requiredpersonal protective equipment.
  • Complete standard Red Cross First Aid and CPR courses during the first year ofapprenticeship and maintain such certification throughoutcareer.
  • Work in industrial conditions (i.e.,warm/hot, dusty/dirty, around hazardous chemicals, noise, and heavy machinery or working at heights with proper safety training and safetyprotection)
  • Apprentices must successfully complete the State Indentured MillwrightApprenticeshipProgram with classroom andon-the-job relatedinstruction.

You will be required to successfully complete a selection process that could include interviews, an employment background check, a pre-employment drug and alcohol screen, reference verifications, aptitude tests (for some positions), and a fitness-for-duty test (for some positions).
