Job summary

ColonialWebb is seeking skilled Pipe Welders for our Richmond fabrication team. You will layout, fabricate, assemble, install, and weld piping systems for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, and industrial process systems, while mentoring apprentices to work safely and deliver quality.

You will work in a fabrication shop environment with a 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM schedule, Monday through Friday, and contribute to a culture focused on safety, accuracy, and reliability in the mechanical, electrical,

Qualifications

  • AWS 6G certification is required or obtained through ColonialWebb.
  • Experience with roll welding and with a position welder.
  • Experience with MIG, TIG, and Stick welding methods.
  • Knowledge of welding rods and fluxes used in welding metal.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety guidelines.
  • Ability to read drawings, submittals, and specifications.
  • Basic construction/shop math (addition, subtraction, division, multiplication).
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including unscheduled overtime (nights and weekends).

Responsibilities

  • Weld pipes/metals with various techniques (MIG, TIG, arc, etc.).
  • Determine required equipment and welding method using metallurgy knowledge.
  • Weld holding fixtures to structural steel members.
  • Remove slag and rough spots with grinder, file, or scraper.
  • Select pipe types/sizes and related materials per specs.
  • Secure pipes to structures using clamps, brackets, and hangers.
  • Cut pipes using cutters, saws, chisels, torches, or machines.
  • Assemble/install metal pipe and fittings (carbon steel and stainless).
  • Operate shop forklift to move equipment/materials.
  • Load/unload shop materials from trucks to buildings.
  • Teach and direct apprentices and helpers to work safely.
