Job summary

MGC Contractors, Inc. is seeking skilled Pipe Layers for our Arizona Division in the Phoenix metro area. You will install water lines, lay ductile water lines and PVC sewer pipes, align and grade pipes, and backfill and seal joints according to specifications.

The role requires 2–3 years of related underground water/sewer experience, HS diploma or GED, and the ability to work on active construction sites outdoors in all weather conditions. OT may be required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Two to three years of related experience laying underground water lines, sanitary or storm sewers.
• Three or more years of related experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Install mechanical joint water line, bolt together water line, install air release valves and inline valves.
• Grade for flow of sewer line pipe.
• Lay ductile water line and PVC sewer pipe; set line and grade for water lines/sewer lines.
• Plans pipe installation or repair according to specifications.
• Aligns and positions pipes to prepare them for welding or sealing.
• Checks slopes for conformance to requirements and specifications.
• Calculates and adjusts grade using a level and a laser.
• Selects type and size of pipe and related material according to job specs.
• Measures and marks pipes to required length for cutting and threading.
• Cuts, threads, hammers, and welds pipe to specifications.
• Connects pipe pieces and seals joints.
• Locates existing pipes needing repair or replacement through potholing and/or excavation.
• Taps and drills holes into pipes to introduce auxiliary line or devices.
• Secures pipes to structures with clamps, brackets, and hangers.
• Grouting and clearing manholes.
• Inspects installed systems and pipe lines using testing methods.
• Any and all other duties assigned.
