Job summary

The City of Alexandria, Louisiana, is seeking a Utilities Laborer to perform skilled labor in the construction, maintenance, and repair of water, wastewater, and gas distribution systems. This role is 24-hour on-call, with duties including trenching, pipe prep, installation, and equipment operation.

A high school diploma or GED and a valid driver's license are required, with additional licensing pursued after hire.

Qualifications

High School diploma or GED required.
Two years experience in construction, repair, and/or maintenance of pipelines preferred.
Must possess a valid driver’s license; Louisiana Class D license required within one month of hire.

Responsibilities

Dig holes, lines, trenches, and ditches for pipe installation as part of site prep.
Prepare pipe for installation; thread and cut pipe to required specs.
Construct, maintain, and repair gas utility systems, lift systems, and manholes as directed.
Protect utility lines from corrosion; inspect and perform routine maintenance; report issues.
May supervise subordinates in the supervisor's absence.
Fit and install wastewater piping for collection systems.
Operate or use various equipment and tools to complete work; transport equipment to job sites.
Operate equipment such as mini excavator, pipe cut-off saw, probe rod, and related tools.
