Job summary

Thompson Construction Group, Inc. is seeking a Pipe Fitter Helper to assist in layout, assembly, installation, and maintenance of pipe systems for industrial production. Responsibilities include selecting pipes and supports per specs, cutting, threading, bending, and securing piping using hand and power tools, and ensuring proper testing of systems.

The role requires reading blueprints, basic math, and physical fitness to lift up to 50 pounds, with outdoors work and adherence to safety rules.

Qualifications

Must be at least 18 years old.
Must pass written Pipe Fitter Helper test.
Ability to read, write and understand directions from supervisor.

Responsibilities

Select type and size of pipe and related materials according to specifications.
Plan installation or repair to avoid obstructions and interference with other workers.
Cut pipe using saws, pipe cutter, hammer and chisel, cutting torch, and pipe-cutting machine.
Thread pipe using pipe-threading machine.
Bend pipe using pipe-bending tools and machine.
Assemble and install metal and nonmetal pipes with joints and caulked or welded connections.
Secure pipes to structures with brackets, clamps, and hangers.
Install and maintain hydraulic and pneumatic components or machines and equipment.
Increase pressure in pipe system and test with gauges.
Weld pipe supports to steel members (may).
Observe machinery for malfunctions and verify repairs.
Operate machinery to verify repairs.
Observe safety and project rules.
