To be a successful Foreman, you must have excellent leadership skills, which will include but are not limited to delegating tasks to workers to ensure that deadlines are met and safety standards are adhered to. The Foreman will supervise and coordinate activities of workers and equipment related to all Tucker Paving, Inc. construction projects in a safe and timely manner, utilizing the highest quality of workmanship.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Supervise all work activities of crew members.
- Back up the Field Superintendent/Project Superintendent as the OSHA Competent Person and articulate relevant safety regulations for the work being performed.
- Know, comply with, and be passionate about all Tucker Paving rules/policies and OSHA regulations, including trench safety, confined space program, and Silica Dust Safety.
- Model safe work practices, including wearing all personal protective and safety devices.
- Report any safety violations by crew members or subcontractors to the Field Superintendent/Project Superintendent/safety.
- Oversee the crew to ensure correct methods are employed and strict adherence to safety rules/regulations.
- Correct any unsafe conditions that may exist or occur on the job site, assisting with job site inspections.
- Plan for job equipment, material, and personnel requirements as far in advance as possible.
- Attend required meetings and all scheduled supervisory meetings as assigned.
- Train new crew members and ensure the safety of crew members and the public.
- Complete necessary daily job logs and promote rapport and teamwork among the field crew.
- Manage job sites to ascertain progress in meeting time schedules, detect insufficient utilization of workers and equipment, and supervise the job.
- Maintain time and materials records necessary to complete daily job costing.
- Oversee crew timekeeping, ensuring accurate daily attendance records are maintained and reported to payroll.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- Directly supervise 3 to 10 employees.
- Recommend measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, product quality, and crew performance.
- Supervise and coordinate crew activities, studying production schedules and estimating work requirements for job completion.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Minimum 3 to 5 years of managing crew-related experience or an equivalent combination of education and training.
- Prior experience in a supervisory role.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to operate equipment safely and efficiently.
- Ability to keep time and material records.
- Exhibit a high level of safety consciousness and a clear understanding of equipment safety.
- Ability to interpret blueprints/plans and construct accordingly.
- OSHA 30 preferred (but not required).
- Ability to set up and use effectively site level, grade laser, pipe laser, and straight-line level.
Communication Skills:
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively.
Mathematical Skills:
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals to compute rate, ratio, and percent.
Reasoning Ability:
- Requires independent judgment and conscious thinking.
Computer Skills:
- Ability to use iPad and smartphone.

- Ability to work on weekends, public holidays, and at night.
- Ability to travel to job sites as needed.
- Ability to work for long hours in all weather conditions.
- Ability to stand for extended periods and to stoop, bend, and crouch as required.
- Ability to lift and carry, on a frequent basis, at least 50-90 pounds personally, and up to 150 pounds with assistance.
- Maintain constant alertness to activities on the construction site.
- Frequently walk on uneven surfaces in varying weather conditions.
- Sufficient skill and visual acuity under varying degrees of light and weather conditions.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work is performed outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Work environment periodically exposes employees to high levels of noise, grease, and dust typically associated with a construction project.
- Employee regularly works near heavy equipment and moving machinery.
- Work may involve a variety of substances commonly found on construction sites.
- Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA.
