Job: Pipefitter (Assembly)

Job Summary

The Pipefitter (Assembly) lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs, tests, and maintains piping systems, pipe supports, valves, fittings, and related equipment used in prefabricated modular systems. The position works with piping for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubrication, sprinkler, hydraulic, pneumatic, and industrial production or processing systems.

The Pipefitter reads drawings and specifications, determines appropriate materials and fabrication methods, and completes assemblies according to project requirements, quality standards, and production schedules.

This is a fully on-site position. The employee will complete a minimum 90-day on-site training period at Epsilon Industries’ Tuscaloosa, Alabama facility and will receive a per diem of $500 per week during the training period. Upon completion of training, the position will transfer to and remain fully on-site at Epsilon Industries’ Oxford, Alabama facility.

Pipefitting & Assembly

• Lay out, assemble, install, and maintain piping systems, pipe supports, valves, fittings, and related equipment.
• Work with metal, plastic, fiberglass, and other approved piping materials.
• Measure, cut, thread, groove, bend, fit, and assemble piping accurately.
• Join pipe sections and connect related equipment using approved methods.
• Position, align, level, and secure piping, supports, and equipment.
• Fabricate and install pipe supports, hangers, brackets, and related components.
• Drill and punch holes in metal for screws, bolts, rivets, and other fasteners.
• Trim, file, grind, deburr, buff, and smooth surfaces, seams, and joints using hand and power tools.
• Assist with positioning and installing completed piping assemblies within modular units.
• Complete assigned work according to production schedules and project requirements.

Drawings, Layout & Quality

• Read and interpret blueprints, piping drawings, isometrics, work orders, specifications, and fabrication details.
• Determine the appropriate pipe, fittings, tools, equipment, and sequence of work.
• Perform accurate measurements, layouts, calculations, and material takeoffs.
• Verify dimensions, elevations, alignment, slope, orientation, and component placement.
• Inspect completed work for proper fit, workmanship, and compliance with drawings.
• Identify drawing, material, dimensional, or fabrication concerns before work proceeds.
• Report defects, discrepancies, and unclear requirements to supervision.
• Correct deficiencies and complete rework within assigned authority.
• Produce high-quality work with minimal defects, nonconformances, and rework.

Testing & Inspection

• Prepare piping systems for inspection and testing.
• Use approved testing equipment and procedures to check systems for leaks.
• Assist with hydrostatic, pneumatic, or other required testing when properly trained and authorized.
• Inspect piping joints, connections, supports, valves, and installed components.
• Document test results and deficiencies as required.
• Correct identified leaks or installation issues and support retesting.
• Coordinate inspection and testing activities with Quality, Production, and supervision.
• Follow all required safety precautions during pressure testing.

Tools, Equipment & Material Handling

• Safely use pipe threaders, grooving machines, saws, grinders, drills, and other fabrication equipment.
• Use tape measures, levels, squares, and other measuring devices accurately.
• Operate forklifts and other material‑handling equipment when properly trained and authorized.
• Inspect tools and equipment before use.
• Report damaged tools, equipment malfunctions, and maintenance concerns promptly.
• Handle, stage, and protect piping materials and completed assemblies properly.
• Maintain tools and equipment in a clean and serviceable condition.

Safety & Housekeeping

• Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and personal protective equipment requirements.
• Follow approved procedures for hot work, pressure testing, lifting, rigging, and material handling.
• Maintain awareness of pinch points, sharp edges, stored energy, suspended loads, and moving equipment.
• Keep work areas clean, organized, and free of unnecessary hazards.
• Participate in required safety meetings, toolbox talks, and training.
• Stop work and notify supervision when an unsafe condition is identified.
• Report incidents, injuries, property damage, and near misses promptly.

Teamwork & General Responsibilities

• Coordinate work with other Pipefitters, Welders, Production employees, Quality, Engineering, and supervision.
• Communicate material, drawing, tooling, quality, or production issues promptly.

Job Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Journeyman Pipefitter or Steamfitter trade qualification required.
• One to three years of industrial pipefitting experience preferred.
• Manufacturing, fabrication, industrial construction, or modular-construction experience preferred.
• An equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience may be considered where appropriate.

Technical Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, piping drawings, isometrics, specifications, and work orders.
• Ability to measure, lay out, cut, thread, groove, bend, fit, and assemble piping.
• Knowledge of piping materials, valves, fittings, supports, and joining methods.
• Basic understanding of hydraulic, pneumatic, steam, heating, cooling, and industrial piping systems.
• Ability to use hand tools, power tools, pipefitting equipment, and measuring devices safely.

• Three or more years of industrial pipefitting experience.
• Experience with steam, hydraulic, pneumatic, or industrial‑process piping.
• Experience with piping fabrication for modular or prefabricated systems.
• Experience performing hydrostatic or pneumatic testing.
• Forklift certification.
• Rigging or overhead‑crane experience.
• OSHA 10‑Hour or other recognized construction or manufacturing safety training.

Working Conditions:

• Initial work and training will be performed in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, followed by permanent assignment to the Oxford, Alabama facility.
• Regular exposure to noise, dust, fumes, sparks, sharp edges, machinery, moving equipment, and varying temperatures.
• Work may involve pressure testing, hot‑work activities, elevated work areas, and limited‑access locations.
• Required use of personal protective equipment in designated areas.
