Job summary

AbbVie’s API Pilot Plant in North Chicago, IL is seeking a project engineer to provide capital project management and technical support to the pilot plant and laboratories within AbbVie’s Synthetic Molecule CMC organization.

This role will lead planning and execution of capital projects related to process equipment, facilities, and utilities, while supporting the R&D pipeline with day-to-day technical support and cross-functional collaboration with engineers, chemists, and operations technicians.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in chemical or mechanical engineering or equivalent with 2+ years of relevant engineering/operational experience.
• Strong teamwork skills and ability to establish and maintain collaborative relationships across disciplines.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Technical background in healthcare, medical devices, pharmaceuticals, biologics, or related industries (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute small to medium capital projects spanning scope, cost, and schedule.
• Ensure projects meet regulatory, end-user, and good engineering practice requirements.
• Provide regular project status updates and variances to plan.
• Lead design of process equipment, facilities, and utilities and manage procurement/installation.
• Support commissioning and qualification of equipment and systems.
• Provide day-to-day technical support in the pilot plant and troubleshoot issues.
