Job summary

The Picking and Packing Team Lead at Carr Lane Manufacturing Co in St. Louis, MO directs the daily work of the pick, pack, and ship team, blending hands-on order fulfillment with leadership to ensure accurate, secure packaging and on-time shipments.

This is a working lead role where supervision and practical task execution go hand in hand. This position partners with Customer Service, Shipping and Inventory Control to balance workload, maintain quality, coach teammates, and implement process

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • 3+ years warehouse experience including order picking and packing.
  • 1+ year of lead or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of ERP or warehouse management systems; Microsoft Dynamics 365 a plus.
  • Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to train, coach, and motivate a team.
  • Forklift certification or the ability to obtain certification upon hire.
  • Ability to read and interpret pick tickets, packing lists, and shipping documentation.

Responsibilities

  • Lead shift start-up huddles to communicate daily priorities, expedites, and process changes.
  • Assign and prioritize the daily pick and pack workload to meet shipping cutoffs and same-day order commitments.
  • Monitor the order queue throughout the shift and redistribute work to maintain order flow during volume spikes, expedites, or absences.
  • Perform picking, packing, and shipping tasks alongside the team as volume requires.
  • Verify order accuracy through spot checks and audits; investigate and resolve mis-picks, shortages, and packing errors at the root cause.
  • Ensure proper packaging methods are used to prevent damage in transit, including correct packaging selection, dunnage, and labeling.
  • Coordinate expedited and priority orders with Inventory Control, Customer Service, and Shipping to meet promise dates.
  • Manage consolidations and consolidation schedule; ensuring orders are packed and shipped on time
  • Track packages needing additional information, follow-up as needed
  • Train new team members in safety practices, picking procedures, packing standards, safe material handling, and warehouse equipment.
  • Provide day-to-day coaching and performance feedback; elevate personnel matters to the supervisor or Human Resources as appropriate.
  • Identify and recommend process improvements that reduce errors, improve throughput, and support on-time shipment goals.
  • Maintain a clean, organized work area in compliance with company safety standards and 5S practices.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Position Overview

The Picking and Packing Team Lead directs the daily work of the pick, pack, and ship team to ensure customer orders are picked accurately, packed securely, and shipped on time. This is a working lead position: the Team Lead splits time between hands-on order fulfillment and coordinating the team's workload, quality, and training. The role is the first point of contact for the team on daily priorities, order issues, and process questions, and works closely with Customer Service, Shipping, and Inventory Control to keep orders moving.
