Job summary

Marquette University in Milwaukee is seeking a Physics Laboratory Coordinator to assist the physics lab supervisor in preparing for, executing, and evaluating undergraduate lab sections (PHYS 1001–1014) each semester.

You will coordinate teaching lab activity, supervise student employees, and support student success through tutoring and make-up lab sessions. This role sits in the Physics Department and contributes to a culture of inclusion and excellence.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM or Education, plus relevant experience.
  • Some exposure to laboratory or experiential learning (science labs; research; workshops; industry).
  • Some instructional experience (teaching; TA; tutoring; leadership; supervisory; etc.)

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate teaching lab activity, including running training sessions for lab activities, maintaining online lab instruction materials, teaching of and assistance with lab sections as needed, tracking grading of lab assignments, maintaining lab equipment inventory and storage.
  • Responsible for the supervision of student employees, which includes hiring, training, disciplinary actions, ending the student's assignment, etc.
  • Support student success through teaching of make-up lab sessions and supervision of drop-in tutoring and TA office hours.

The Physics Laboratory Coordinator assists the physics lab supervisor in preparing for, executing, and evaluating the 20 to 35 undergraduate laboratory sections per semester of introductory physics (PHYS 1001/2, 1003/3H/4/4H, PHYS 1013/1014, ARSC 1020/1021).

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Coordinate teaching lab activity, including but not limited to running training sessions for lab activities, maintaining online lab instruction materials, teaching of and assistance with lab sections as needed, tracking grading of lab assignments, maintaining lab equipment inventory and storage.

OTHER EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor\'s degree in STEM or Education, plus relevant experience

  • Some instructional experience (teaching; TA; tutoring; leadership; supervisory; etc.)
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Manual dexterity; strong communication skills written, oral, and comprehension; empathy and patience, and an ability to remain calm; organization skills; mechanical aptitude; technical and scientific literacy; some experience with learning, leadership and responsibility.
