Job summary

Brookhaven National Laboratory seeks a Director for the Physics Division to lead a team of over 200 scientists and engineers. Qualifications

• PhD in nuclear or particle physics or closely related field.
• Minimum 12 years of experience in nuclear/particle physics research and operation programs, including at least 8 years in leadership/management within a DOE laboratory or equivalent.
• Proven track record of leading large, mission-driven scientific research and operations organizations with strategic planning, workforce management, fiscal oversight, and performance.
• Ability to engage with senior Laboratory leadership, DOE sponsors, advisory and review committees, partner institutions and external stakeholders.
• internationally recognized accomplishments in nuclear or particle physics research and successful history managing complex large-scale initiatives.
• Excellent verbal, written, presentation and interpersonal communication skills for diverse audiences and executive reporting.
• Commitment to safety, ethical conduct, and operational excellence.

Responsibilities

• Provide overall scientific, technical, operational, and strategic leadership for the Division.
• Establish priorities, governance processes, organizational structure, and management systems for safe operations and effective execution.
• Develop and implement a long-term strategic vision for scientific and operational excellence.
• Develop, manage, forecast and execute annual operating budgets exceeding $100M.
• Collaborate with EIC Project leadership and other divisions to deliver division scope and commitments.
• Represent the Division and Laboratory to DOE officials, sponsors, advisory committees and external stakeholders.
• Maintain a strong, diverse workforce and promote a collaborative work environment.
