Job summary

Novant Health's Weisiger Cancer Institute in Charlotte is seeking a PRN Physicist II to support clinical operations in our radiation oncology departments, with coverage for staff vacations and occasional remote work. The role involves collaboration with dosimetrists, physicians and therapy staff to ensure safe delivery of radiation therapy.

The ideal candidate will have a CAMPEP‑accredited medical physics education and ABR/ABMP certification, with a minimum of 3 years in radiation oncology

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert knowledge of radiation properties, treatment planning and delivery.
  • Advise dosimetrists and physicians on safe delivery of therapy.
  • Perform/oversee quality assurance procedures for radiation equipment and treatment delivery.
  • Mentor Physicist I and participate in weekly chart checks and patient simulations.

What We Offer

Physicist II PRN - Charlotte, NC

The Weisiger Cancer Institute at Novant Health Presbyterian Medical Center is hiring a PRN Physicist II to support clinical operations in our radiation oncology departments. This position covers staff vacations and could work sometimes remotely and sometimes in-person at Presbyterian Medical Center, Huntersville Medical Center, and Rowan Medical Center.

What You'll Do

The Physicist II provides expert knowledge of radiation properties, treatment planning and delivery techniques to advise dosimetrists, physicians and other members of the radiation oncology team on the safe and effective delivery of radiation therapy. Certification in therapeutic medical physics from ABR or ABMP. Minimum 3 years of experience in radiation oncology physics.

What We're Looking For
  • Education: Graduate degree in Medical Physics and graduated from CAMPEP accredited Medical Physics Residency Program, required.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years in radiation oncology physics, preferred. 5 years Progressive experience in radiation oncology physics, preferred.
  • Licensure/Certification/Registration: Certification in therapeutic medical physics from American Board of Radiology (ABR) or American Board of Medical Physics (ABMP), required.
  • Additional Skills Required:
    • Generates treatment plans for patient treatments as needed.
    • Provides mentorship to Physicist I.
    • Understands and advises physicians and therapists on proper patient simulation setup and treatment delivery techniques.
    • Follows necessary safety protocols to ensure safe and effective delivery of radiation treatment.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of current best practices for quality assurance.
    • Performs recommended quality assurance procedures to ensure the safe operation of radiation equipment.
    • Regularly assesses current processes to ensure their effectiveness and continuous quality improvement.
    • Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of equipment function and operation.
    • Performs patient specific quality assurance procedures including but not limited to: -Initial treatment plan checks, IMRT/SBRT/SRS QA, In-vivo dose measurements, and activities that are required to ensure the safe delivery of radiation treatments.
    • Provides special physics consults to radiation oncologists as needed.
    • Performs weekly chart checks in accordance with department policies.
    • Maintains continuing education and professional development.
    • Responsible and accountable for:
      • Compliance with workplace policies and procedures for risk identification, risk assessment and risk control.
      • Active participation in activities associated with the management of workplace health and safety.
      • Identification and reporting of health and safety risks, accidents, incidents, injuries and property damage at the workspace.
      • Proper utilization of performance (ownership, teamwork communication, compassion) that support patient satisfaction and principles of service excellence.

    • Performs other duties as assigned.
