Job summary

Position Summary

The University of North Carolina Cancer Care Center at Rockingham (UNCR) is seeking a medical physicist to provide clinical radiation therapy physics services. The candidate will serve as Radiation Safety Officer and will perform standard physicist duties such as chart checking, machine calibrations, and quality assurance. Responsibilities also include remote clinical duties for UNC Chapel Hill/Hillsborough as needed, ensuring precise and accurate delivery of radiation treatment plans, and maintaining patient and staff safety. The role reports to the Director of Medical Physics at UNC Cancer Center in Chapel Hill.

• Provide clinical radiation therapy physics services for UNCR’s Radiation Therapy program.
• Serve as Radiation Safety Officer for the facility.
• Perform chart checking for UNCR and UNC Chapel Hill/Hillsborough.
• Carry out machine calibrations, quality assurance, and record‑keeping.
• Participate in remote clinical duties for UNC Chapel Hill/Hillsborough as required.
• Ensure precise and accurate delivery of radiation treatment plans, maintaining safety for patients and staff.
• Report to the Director of Medical Physics at UNC Cancer Center, Chapel Hill.

Ideal candidates will have a desire to practice clinical medical physics, excellent verbal and written communication skills, strong technical skills, and a commitment to integrating new technologies within the UNC Cancer Center program.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

• MS or PhD in Medical Physics, Physics, Engineering, or a related field.
• ABR board certification in Therapeutic Medical Physics.
• Experience with IMRT/VMAT, IGRT, and SBRT.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

• Experience with Elekta linear accelerators, Mosaiq record‑and‑verify, Raystation treatment planning, and RadCalc.
• Familiarity with radiation safety regulations in the State of North Carolina.
