Responsibilities

• Perform donor physicals for new and returning donors.
• Administer informed consent related to plasmapheresis and other donation programs.
• Maintain accurate donor records per cGMP and SOPs.
• Review donor lab results and refer abnormalities to a licensed physician.
• Provide care for donor reactions and medical incidents as needed.
• Communicate compliance and risk areas to the Center Director and Quality Manager.

Job description

Physician Substitute - LPN, RN, Paramedic or EMT-A (Myrtle Beach, SC)

Under the direction of the Medical Director and/or Center Licensed Physician(s), the Physician Substitute determines the acceptability of all first‑time donors and return applicant donors, ensures that donors meet suitability criteria in accordance with FDA guidance, reviews normal donor laboratory tests, and refers abnormal results to the Physician for review. The Physician Substitute works closely with the Medical Director or licensed Center Physician(s) to make decisions that impact donor suitability and provides medical oversight in screening, phlebotomy, and plasma processing areas.

Key Duties

• Perform new and returning donor physicals, and annual donor physicals.
• Administer and answer donor questions about the Plasmapheresis Informed Consent, RSV Plasmapheresis Informed Consent, and the informed consent for any other applicable donation program.
• Administer the AIDS Bulletin and assess the donor’s understanding of high‑risk activities.
• Maintain accurate, legible, and complete donor records in accordance with cGMP.
• Review normal donor laboratory work within the time requirements as outlined in the SOPs and refer abnormal lab work to the Licensed Center Physician(s).
• Observe and approve staff training in medically related areas.
• Ensure donor reviews are executed in accordance with SOPs.
• Provide immediate care and assessment of all donor reactions.
• Review all medical incidents and record the appropriate DAE in the applicable donor center system, and take the appropriate actions to manage the incident when necessary.
• Complete and manage all Medical Incident Reports and conduct follow‑up with donor in accordance with SOPs.
• Licensed Nursing staff administer employee Hepatitis B immunizations in accordance with protocol.
• Licensed Nursing staff administer donor immunizations as applicable.
• Communicate all compliance or risk areas to the Center Director and Quality Manager.
• Provide confidential counseling to donors who are ineligible for donation.
• Confirm donor identification.
• Teach the donor to use the self‑administered questionnaire and assist as needed.
• Perform donor arm checks.
• Determine donor vital signs and weight and properly record results in the applicable donor center system.

Requirements

• Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience: None.
• Certification: CPR certified or ability to obtain certification.
• License: Current RN, LPN, or Advanced EMT license in the state where the Donor Center operates.
