Summary

North Florida/ South Georgia VA Healthcare System's Specialty Care Service is seeking an experienced and dynamic Sleep Medicine Physician (Somnologist). Ideal applicants are those who want to contribute to the achievement of quality care standards, as well as the growth and development of a VA academic hospital program. You must be an excellent communicator and team player who is adaptable to the needs of a growing medical center.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic standards.

Basic Requirements:

• United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, in accordance with VA Policy.
• Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved school.
• Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the US.
• Residency Training: Completion of approved residency in Internal Medicine, Neurology, Psychiatry, or Family Medicine, leading to eligibility for board certification.
• Fellowship training in Sleep Medicine.
• Board certified in Sleep Medicine.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.
• Physical Requirements: Must pass a pre-employment physical, including moderate lifting, reaching, use of fingers, hands, legs, cranes, motor vehicles, walking, standing, bending, climbing, and hearing whisper.

Duties

• Provide patient care through outpatient clinics, inpatient consults, and e-consults, delivered in-person and via telehealth.
• Conduct assessments, physical exams, and coordinate care with other health professionals.
• Utilize telehealth to provide care when appropriate.
• Evaluate, diagnose, and treat sleep disorders such as sleep apnea, narcolepsy, restless legs syndrome, REM behavior disorder, and others.
• Interpret sleep studies and sleep oximetry.
• Supervise fellows and trainees.
• Participate in quality improvement and other hospital initiatives.
• Maintain VA training requirements, documentation, and credentials.
