Physician Scientist, Gynecologic Oncology

Job Summary

The Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is searching for a Gynecologic Oncologist Physician Scientist to join the Division of Gynecologic Oncology, which includes nine faculty physicians, two PhD research faculty, and six advanced practice providers. Depending on research scope, the candidate may also hold a secondary appointment in the Division of Reproductive Sciences, which has seven PhD faculty focused on endocrinology, immunology, embryology, and reproductive health. The candidate will be a member of the NCI-designated University of Wisconsin Carbone Cancer Center, gaining access to its resources.

The position is ideally at the level of Associate Professor or Professor, based on qualifications. It involves approximately 80% of time dedicated to a new research platform in gynecologic cancers, and 20% to patient care, including outpatient clinics, surgeries, and on-call duties. Leadership, management, and operational skills in a university research setting are required. Additional responsibilities may include mentoring students and faculty, and potential leadership roles based on experience and department needs.

Research and Teaching Responsibilities
  • Expand established research programs in gynecologic cancer and prevention.
  • Develop diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for female reproductive tract malignancies.
  • Secure extramural funding through collaboration.
  • Mentor graduate and postdoctoral fellows.
  • Contribute to professional, public, and university service.
Qualifications
Required
  • MD or DO with specialization in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology.
  • Terminal degree in biological or health sciences or related field.
  • At least three years of postdoctoral research experience in relevant fields.
  • Experience with grant applications and a strong publication record.
  • Completion of accredited residency and fellowship in Gynecologic Oncology.
  • Laparoscopic and robotic surgery experience.
Preferred
  • Over 3 years of postdoctoral research and experience in education.
  • Experience developing independent research projects and securing NIH funding.
  • Experience with gynecologic malignancies and mentoring students.
Licensure and Certification
  • Eligible for Wisconsin medical license.
  • Board certified or eligible in Obstetrics and Gynecology and Gynecologic Oncology.
Additional Details

This is a full-time, ongoing position with an anticipated start date of July 7, 2025. Salary is negotiable. Benefits include vacation, holidays, insurance, and retirement.
