Work and live in the birthplace of Silicon Valley, Palo Alto, CA.

Palo Alto is located in the northwestern corner of Santa Clara County, California, in the San Francisco Bay Area. The city was established by Leland Stanford Sr. when he founded Stanford University, following the death of his son, Leland Stanford Jr. It includes portions of Stanford University and shares borders with East Palo Alto, Mountain View, Los Altos, Los Altos Hills, Stanford, Portola Valley, and Menlo Park. As of the 2010 census, the population was 64,403.

As a principal city of Silicon Valley, Palo Alto hosts headquarters for numerous high-tech companies such as Hewlett-Packard, Space Systems / Loral, VMware, Tesla, Ford Research and Innovation Center, PARC, IDEO, Skype, Houzz, and Lockheed Martin Advanced Technology Center. Veterans Affairs Palo Alto Health Care System (VAPAHCS)

VAPAHCS is a teaching hospital affiliated with Stanford University School of Medicine, providing patient care, education, and research across various specialties including psychiatry. It trains approximately 1,300 residents, interns, and students annually. The facility operates nearly 900 beds, including three nursing homes and a 100-bed homeless domiciliary, serving over 85,000 veterans.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The psychiatrist will perform all duties of a staff psychiatrist, including but not limited to:

• Admission and discharge of patients
• Treatment and professional oversight of inpatient care
• Psychiatric consultations
• Patient rounds
• Attending treatment team meetings

Mental Health Services include:

• Acute Inpatient Mental Health unit with 40 beds
• Consultations to Acute Medicine/Surgery inpatient units
• Psychiatric assessments in the emergency department

Requirements:

• Doctor of Medicine degree or equivalent in medicine or osteopathic medicine
• Licensed, Board Certified, or Board Eligible to practice medicine in the U.S.
• BLS Certification

The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm, with a half-hour unpaid lunch, primarily at the VAPAHCS Acute Inpatient Mental Health Units.

POP: July 1, 2021, to June 30, 2022.
