Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing may be referred and tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the initial appointment requirements are deemed to have met the basic requirements.
- United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed if qualified citizens cannot be recruited, in accordance with VA Policy.
- Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved school.
- Current full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
- Residency Training: Completion of an approved residency leading to board certification eligibility.
- Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs are eligible as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and appointed on an intermittent or fee basis.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Additional Requirement: Adult Psychiatry board eligibility or certification.
- Physical Requirements: Walking, talking, driving, use of phone and computer, with no strenuous physical activity required. Light lifting (<15 pounds), hearing aid permitted.
Duties
- This is an open continuous announcement until September 5, 2025, with initial referral cut-off on June 10, 2025, and subsequent biweekly cut-offs.

- The Interventional Psychiatrist oversees Ketamine, ECT, and TMS services at the San Francisco VA Healthcare System.
- The staff psychiatrist provides comprehensive mental health care, managing the Interventional Psychiatry program, and collaborating with the healthcare team.
- Responsibilities include clinical care, adhering to policies, participating in educational activities, and maintaining quality assurance standards.
