Job description

Summary

This position involves serving as a Psychiatrist within the Recovery Services, an outpatient substance use disorder treatment program. The role focuses on delivering evidence-based care for Veterans diagnosed with opioid use disorder treated with Buprenorphine and addressing psychiatric needs of Veterans involved in Recovery Services. The ideal candidate will be double board certified in General Psychiatry and Addiction Psychiatry or will be board eligible.

Qualifications

Applicants must meet the basic and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending training or license completion may be considered for referral and tentative selection but not for final hire until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the initial appointment requirements are deemed qualified.

Basic Requirements:

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may be appointed if qualified citizens are unavailable
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an approved school
  • Current, unrestricted medical or surgical license in the U.S.
  • Completed residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification
  • Enrolled residents in accredited programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who are fully licensed but only perform supervised duties
  • Proficiency in English
  • Preferred: Double board certification in Psychiatry and Addiction Psychiatry or eligibility
  • Physical requirements include visual acuity, hearing, speech, manual dexterity, and physical stamina
Responsibilities
  • Perform substance use disorder and psychiatric evaluations
  • Induce and manage treatment with Suboxone for Opioid Use Disorder
  • Provide medication-assisted treatment for substance use disorders
  • Ensure compliance with applicable policies, guidelines, and regulations
  • Participate in team meetings and collaborate with multidisciplinary staff
  • Order and interpret diagnostic tests and consultations
  • Potentially participate in supervision, teaching, on-call duties, and other related tasks
  • Maintain availability for consultations and support within Recovery Services
