Job description

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the EDRP application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or licensing requirements may be tentatively referred and selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved school.
  • Current - full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
  • Residency Training: Completion of residency approved by the VA, ACGME, AOA, or equivalent, leading to eligibility for board certification.
  • Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA programs are eligible for appointment as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs), who must be fully licensed and may only be appointed on an intermittent or fee-basis.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Physical Standards: Applicants must meet physical requirements, including passing a physical exam, and meet drug testing policies.
Duties
  • This is an open continuous announcement until June 5, 2025, with initial referral cut-off on August 5, 2025, and subsequent cut-offs every five days.
  • Eligible applications received after the initial cut-off will be considered as vacancies become available.
