Job description

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan repayment initiative. Applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria outlined by VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to reapply.

Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must meet the basic and any additional requirements specified in the job announcement. Pending applicants or those completing training or licensing may be tentatively referred but cannot be hired until all requirements are fulfilled. Current VA-employed physicians who met previous qualification standards at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship (non-citizens only if recruitment of qualified citizens is not possible)
  • Doctor of medicine or equivalent degree from an accredited school
  • Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in the U.S.
  • Completion of residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification
  • For residents: enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs or equivalent experience
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Preferred: Board-eligibility or certification by the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology for Adult Psychiatry
  • Physical requirements as per VA Directive and Handbook 5019
Duties

This position is based within the VISN2 Clinical Resource Hub (CRH) and involves providing psychiatric services via virtual care modalities such as CVT and VVC. Responsibilities include:

  1. Serving as a primary psychiatric provider in outpatient clinics or PCMHI programs
  2. Diagnosing and treating psychiatric and behavioral disorders, including psychopharmacology and psychotherapy
  3. Supporting family and caregiver interventions as appropriate
  4. Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams and community partners
  5. Participating in educational activities, training, and system improvement initiatives
  6. Engaging in telehealth and connected care education and program evaluation
  7. Maintaining documentation in electronic medical records
  8. Participating in peer review and staff development activities
  9. This position is currently remote but subject to organizational needs.
