Job description

Summary

This psychiatric position requires expertise in psychiatry, psychopharmacology, medication management, working within a multidisciplinary team, and psychotherapy. The incumbent will provide a full range of therapeutic interventions including diagnostic assessments, medication evaluation and management, treatment planning, suicide risk assessments, crisis intervention, and overall care of patients with psychiatric disorders.

Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must meet the basic and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending training or license completion applicants may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA employees who met initial appointment requirements are deemed to have met the basic standards.

Basic Requirements include:

• U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens only if no qualified citizens are available)
• Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school
• Current unrestricted medical license in the U.S.
• Completed residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification
• Proficiency in English
• Physical requirements include work in a patient care setting with typical safety precautions

Duties

• Provide psychiatric evaluations and care for diverse populations, including geriatric and post-deployment veterans
• Offer therapeutic interventions such as assessments, medication management, treatment planning, and crisis intervention
• Ensure practice compliance with relevant policies, guidelines, and regulations
• Participate in team meetings, treatment planning, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams
• Order diagnostic tests, interpret findings, and make treatment decisions
• May serve as a mental health leader, supervise residents, perform on-call duties, and other related tasks
• Work schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm, split between Delaware and Marion CBOCs
