Job description

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to reapply.

Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending completion of training or licensing requirements, applicants may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met the initial appointment requirements under previous standards are considered to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship (non-citizens only when qualified citizens cannot be recruited)
  • Doctor of Medicine or equivalent degree from an approved school
  • Current, full, and unrestricted medical license in the U.S.
  • Completed residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification
  • Eligible residencies include those approved by ACGME, AOA, or other recognized programs with verified practice in the U.S.
  • Residents in ACGME/AOA programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs), who are fully licensed but only appointed on an intermittent or fee basis, without independent practice privileges
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English
  • Preferred: Board certification in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical
Duties
  • Manage medical care for Veterans in Primary Care, including documentation and workload management
  • Lead the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT)
  • Provide cross-cover for other providers as needed
  • Collaborate to ensure safety and quality of Veteran care
  • Meet performance metrics and ensure positive customer service
  • Participate in quality improvement and assurance activities
  • Maintain necessary licensures and credentials
  • Adhere to ethical and professional standards
