Job description

Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. Applicants must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet the basic and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending training or license completion should be noted, as applicants may be tentatively selected but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Current VA-employed physicians who met initial appointment requirements under previous standards are deemed to have met basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:
  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may be appointed if qualified citizens cannot be recruited per VA Policy.
  • Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an approved school.
  • Current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
  • Completion of residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification (ACGME, AOA, or equivalent). Residents in training are eligible for appointment as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) under specific conditions.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Preferred: Board Certified in Family Medicine or Internal Medicine.
  • Physical and mental ability to perform duties as per VA Handbook standards.
Responsibilities
  • Manage medical care for Veterans enrolled in Primary Care.
  • Document patient encounters efficiently using electronic medical records.
  • Lead the Patient Aligned Care Team (PACT) and collaborate with team members.
  • Ensure safety and quality of Veteran care, participate in quality improvement activities, and maintain licensure and certifications.
  • Work schedule: Full Time, Monday to Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30/5:00 pm.
