Duties

The James J. Peters VA Medical Center is recruiting for a full-time Primary Care Physician. The incumbent will be board-eligible or board-certified in Internal Medicine or Family Medicine and responsible for delivering primary care to patients enrolled at the James J. Peters VA Medical Center or its community-based outpatient clinics. The primary care provider will offer team-based care supported by nursing and clerical staff, as well as extended team members including pharmacists, social workers, psychologists, and nutritionists.

Responsibilities

The VA is an academic tertiary care center affiliated with the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and the Vagelos School of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University. Responsibilities include:

  • Providing acute, routine, and preventative care to veterans, optimizing access, quality, and patient experience.
  • Delivering direct care and care coordination through in-person, virtual, secure messaging, and telephone modalities.
  • Participating in team-based care with daily huddles and coordinating with co-located extended team members.
  • Contributing to quality improvement, population health initiatives, and program development in areas such as chronic disease management, care transitions, geriatrics, reproductive and women's health, LGBTQ+ and gender-affirming care.
  • Supervising and instructing medical students and residents, with potential faculty appointment.
  • Ensuring practice compliance with Joint Commission, VA policies, clinical guidelines, and HIPAA.

Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship.
  • Full, unrestricted medical license in any U.S. state or territory.
  • Completed residency in an accredited program leading to board eligibility.
  • Proficiency in English.

  • Participation in vaccination programs.
Qualifications

Must meet basic requirements including medical degree from an approved school, residency training, and licensure. Foreign medical graduates must verify ECFMG certification if applicable.

Physical Requirements

Moderate lifting, walking, standing, kneeling, bending, and visual and hearing acuity.

Education

MD or equivalent from an accredited institution, with verification of graduation and licensure.
