Summary

This position is located at one of the various Indian Health Service Hospitals or Clinics under the Navajo Area Office. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a technical expert within the specialty area of Pediatrics.

Duties
  • Responsible for the practice of medicine or direct services to patients that involves the performance of diagnostic, preventative, or therapeutic services in hospitals and clinics.
  • Prescribe or administer treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination, and other specialized medical care to treat and prevent illness, disease, or injury.
  • Order, perform, interpret tests, and analyze records, reports, and examination information to diagnose patients conditions.
  • Collect, record, and maintain patient information such as medical history, reports, and examination results. Monitor progress of patients conditions and re-evaluate treatment as necessary.
  • Explain procedures and discuss test results or prescribed treatments with patients.
  • Coordinate work with Nurses, Pharmacists, Social Workers, and other allied health professionals in the provision of a variety of health services.

  • This position involves contact or control over Indian children, and the agency must ensure candidates have not committed certain crimes.

  • Adherence to immunization requirements or exemption requests are necessary.
  • Must obtain and maintain medical staff clinical privileges and licensure requirements.
  • On-call hours or standby duty may be required.
  • Successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
  • Set up direct deposit for payments.
  • Background investigation and fingerprint check are required prior to employment and ongoing employment depends on clearance.
Qualifications

Basic Requirements
  • Degree: MD, DO, or equivalent from an accredited U.S. or Canadian school.
  • Foreign Medical School: Must provide evidence of equivalency.
  • Licensure: Must hold a current, full, and unrestricted license as a Physician.
  • Graduate Training: At least 1 year of supervised clinical experience post-degree, such as internship or residency in an accredited program.

Additional qualifications for GS-15 include 5 years of graduate training or equivalent experience in Pediatrics. Applicants completing training within 9 months should include a letter confirming expected completion date.

Selective Factor

Must be board certified (ABMS or NBPAS), or have completed an accredited residency within the past three years, or actively pursuing certification if more than three years since residency.

Education

Submit transcripts or course list showing completed coursework, credits, and grades. Only degrees from accredited schools are recognized.
