Summary

This position is located at one of the various Indian Health Service Hospitals or Clinics under the Navajo Area Office. The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a technical expert within the specialty area of Family Practice, providing diagnosis, care, and treatment of patients of all ages.

Note: This is an Open Continuous announcement; applicants will be referred as vacancies occur.

Duties
  • Responsible for the practice of medicine or direct services to patients, including diagnostic, preventative, or therapeutic services in hospitals and clinics.
  • Prescribe or administer treatment, therapy, medication, vaccination, and other specialized medical care.
  • Order, perform, interpret tests, and analyze records to diagnose patient conditions.
  • Monitor patient progress and re-evaluate treatment as necessary. Explain procedures and discuss test results or treatments with patients.
  • Coordinate work with Nurses, Pharmacists, Social Workers, and other health professionals.

Requirements
Conditions of Employment
  • Probationary period may be required.
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Selective Service Registration required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Position involves contact/control over Indian children; must not have criminal convictions as specified.
  • Confidential Financial Disclosure Form required.
  • Immunizations as per IHS Circular 2016-04 or exemption request.
  • On-call or standby duty may be required.
  • Pass E-Verify check and set up direct deposit.
  • Pre-employment fingerprint check and background investigation required.
Qualifications

Your resume must detail experience and/or education relevant to the duties. Experience includes paid, unpaid, volunteer, and part-time work. Clearly specify duties and hours per week.

Basic Requirements
  • Degree: MD or DO from an accredited U.S. or Canadian school.
  • Foreign graduates: must demonstrate educational equivalency.
  • Licensure: active, unrestricted license as a Physician.
  • Graduate training: at least 1 year of supervised clinical experience post-degree.
Additional Qualifications

GS-15 requires 5 years of graduate training or equivalent experience in Family Medicine. Applicants in training must submit a letter confirming expected completion date.

Selective Factor

Must be Board Certified (ABMS or NBPAS) or have completed an accredited residency within the last 3 years, or be actively pursuing certification.

Education

Submit transcripts or course list. Only accredited schools recognized by the U.S. Department of Education are accepted.
