Job description

Summary

This position is located in the Surgery Service Line at the Corporal Michael J. Crescenz VA Medical Center - Philadelphia, PA. The Orthopedic surgeon serves as a member of the organized medical staff and functions within the Medical Staff Bylaws and other rules and regulations of the Veterans Health Administration and the Philadelphia VA Medical Center. Preferred Experience: Board Certified/Eligible and Fellowship trained for Total Joint Replacement and Revisions.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements as well as any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending the completion of training or license requirements may be tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed VA physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:
  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Degree of doctor of medicine or an equivalent degree from an approved medical school.
  • Current - full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S.
  • Residency Training: Completed residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification. Approved residencies include those approved by ACGME, AOA, or other recognized programs providing appropriate professional training.
  • Residents enrolled in accredited programs may be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs) on an intermittent or fee basis. PRPs must be fully licensed and are not considered independent practitioners.
  • Proficiency in spoken and written English.
  • Preferred Experience: Board Certified/Eligible and Fellowship trained for Total Joint Replacement and Revisions.
  • Physical Requirements: Capable of performing duties which include sitting, standing, walking, reaching, and bending.
Duties
  • Manage the full spectrum of surgical care responsibilities, including admission, evaluation, diagnosis, treatment, and consultation for orthopedic patients.
  • Order lab work, diagnostic tests, and consultations; perform office-based and surgical procedures.
  • Work in compliance with VA, Joint Commission, and other applicable standards.
  • Collaborate with a team of healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care to Veteran patients.
  • Work Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm.
