Summary
This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific eligibility requirements per VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Program approval, award amount (up to $200,000), and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, you must meet the basic requirements and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Applicants pending completion of training or license requirements may be considered tentatively but cannot be hired until all requirements are met. Currently employed VA physicians who met the requirements at their initial appointment are deemed to have met the basic requirements.
Basic Requirements:
- U.S. Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited, in accordance with VA Policy.
- Degree of doctor of medicine or equivalent from an accredited school.
- Current unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S. or its territories.
- Residency Training: Completion of approved residency training leading to eligibility for board certification.
- Residents enrolled in ACGME/AOA accredited programs are eligible to be appointed as "Physician Resident Providers" (PRPs).
- PRPs must be fully licensed and appointed on an intermittent or fee basis, not considered independent practitioners, and will not be privileged.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Board Certified or eligible in Ophthalmology.
- Physical Standards: Must meet physical requirements, including a physical exam prior to placement, and be able to lift 15-44 pounds, push for 2 hours, reach above shoulder, and perform other physical activities listed.
Duties
- This is an open continuous announcement until August 11, 2025, with initial referral cut-off on June 16, 2023, and subsequent cut-offs every 5 days.
- Eligible applications received after the initial cut-off will be considered as vacancies become available.
