Summary

This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan repayment initiative. Applicants must meet specific eligibility criteria per VHA policy and submit their EDRP application within four months of appointment. The program approval, including award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years), is determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services after review of the application. Former EDRP participants are ineligible to apply.

Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must meet the basic and any additional requirements listed in the job announcement. Pending completion of training or licensing can be considered for referral and tentative selection but not for employment until all requirements are fulfilled. Current VA-employed physicians who met initial appointment standards are deemed to have met the basic requirements.

Basic Requirements:

• US Citizenship; non-citizens only when recruitment of qualified citizens is not possible, per VA policy.
• Degree of Doctor of Medicine or equivalent from an approved school.
• Current full and unrestricted medical license in the US or equivalent.
• Completion of residency training approved by the VA, leading to eligibility for board certification.
• Enrolled residents in accredited programs may be appointed as Physician Resident Providers (PRPs) under specific conditions.
• Proficiency in English.
• Board Certification in Internal Medicine or Internal Medicine Pediatrics.
• At least 5 years of practice post-residency.
• Physical standards compliance, including a pre-placement physical exam and ability to perform required physical activities.
